WENDY A POPE
Words from the Ether
HAIKU
Frost on forest floor
Winter sun smiles; says ‘hello’
Bugs enjoy sauna!
Raw wind; old tree bends
branch snaps – agonising cry
only clouds can hear.
Gannet flying high
foaming winter sea below –
Whoosh! Arrow dives in.
Dark thundery skies
sun ruptures deepening clouds –
wild rainbow appears!
Golden field of corn
see it shimmer in the sun!
Tomorrow, we eat.
Honey bee buzzing
floats to freshly opened bud.
Gathers warm nectar.
Little white-lipped snail
glides to tip of fragile stem;
too much weight, then – plop!
Large fish; sleek otter
swim in sparkling ancient stream –
taste the pure water!
Naked sycamore
Crisp curled leaves; golden, scarlet
Autumn sheds her gown.
Black cavernous shell.
Peering out through hollow eyes,
empty vessel sleeps
